The Road That Would Lead Me to You

The street signs had been tampered with

the maps had everything wrong

I was living on castoffs and samples

I was listening to all the wrong songs

but I managed to hide

all the hoopla inside

of my head when it felt like a zoo

till a whispering guide

got me thumbing a ride

on the road that would lead me to you

the crazy road that would lead me to you

I pleaded with an astronaut

to smuggle me into space

and gurus propounded the fastest way

to save the whole human race

when they offered a lift

and admired my thrift

and admitted they hadn’t a clue

I was scanning the faces

in the strangest of places

the road that would lead me to you

the crazy-ass road that would lead me to you
