Gloria

Glory to God in the highest, we pray —

but what kind of insecure god would give

a damn for uppercase praise, or love? Say

it anyway — Glory to God, a prayer

for mercy and forgiveness, for some way

out of suffering. We beg for a share

of eternity — public heaven, private

hells, a flock of renegade sheep daring

to bleat and thankful to be alive.
