Setting Out

It’s way too late to tell you what to bring —

by now you know: you brought too much — the stuff

on your back and the stuff in your head, things

you thought you needed. It’s more than enough,

you’re finding out, step by weary step, all

day long. So what’s enough? You’ve heard that guff

about what you should want and why — let’s call

it dead weight, the outbox, the wrong brass ring.

But you’ll get there — you’re in for the long haul.
