This Evening

I like it like this — count me in for simple

pleasures like this pause, this fine betweenness,

this velvet horizon in the dimming

light, this dark unfolding over green

mountain valleys, these misty forests haunted

with twilight, contentment, peace unseen,

this sense that what I have is what I want,

this pointless gratitude, this life, this limitless

view from a hillside in Vermont.
